Renton Technical College (RTC) provides you excellent opportunity to become a competent medical assistant in the ever-growing healthcare industry. At RTC, you can opt for a 75-credit certificate program which can be completed in four quarters or a 95-credit associate degree program which takes around six quarters. Upon completion of the certificate program you can transfer your credits to the AAS program and earn your degree by completing 20 more credits.

*Both programs are a mix of classroom studies and hybrid format, along with lab training and clinical practicum. Enrollments start every fall and winter.

Certificate Programs

- 39-credit MA office administration (I-BEST) - This is a short-term course and can be completed in three quarters. Classes begin each fall.

- 85-credit MA certificate of proficiency - This is six quarter program which includes core MA curriculum, 180-hour clinical practicum, and general education courses. Classes start every quarter.

A.A.S: This is a 90-credit coursework which includes entire MA core studies and general education courses. The program starts every fall, spring, winter and summer. Typically, you can complete this program in six quarters.

Certificate coursework includes only core topics such as med terminology, clinical & clerical processes, anatomy, and an 8-credit practicum with seminar, whereas associate degree course comprises of entire certificate curriculum and additional studies in general education. Both courses will prepare you for a promising career in a variety of healthcare settings. Graduates can also take the national certification exam to boost their employment chances.

* Both these courses are offered in two different modes – The on-campus mode begins each fall and hybrid mode which is a mix of online classes and on-campus lab training begins each winter.

Clark College also offers a 96-credit MA (AAT) program which includes entire coursework of certificate program plus additional advanced studies.

Upon completion of any of these two programs, you will be capable to perform clinical and administrative duties required to effectively run medical offices/clinics. You will also be eligible to take the CMA exam.

Charter College offers 10-month med assisting education at its six campuses located in Washington. The program is a combination of lab training and classroom lectures. Classes begin typically every month throughout the year and you will be trained to perform clerical and clinical duties in a variety of healthcare facilities. Coursework includes core MA studies and a 180-hour clinical practicum at a physician’s office, acute care center, or other patient care facility depending on the location of your campus.

Special note: MA students need to clear national certification exam or attempt it twice to meet the graduation requirements.
